To increase visibility of California walnuts in the food service industry, a large-scale restaurant promotion took place with Germany's top tarte flambée restaurant chain Le Feu on Walnut Day. During the event around May 17 awareness and sales were successfully increased.
The California walnut was celebrated in all 18 Le Feu tarte flambée restaurants across Germany. A menu special including four creative, sweet and savory tarte flambées with Californian walnuts was offered to guests. Those who decided against a walnut tarte flambée could order a handful of walnuts as bowl topping. Posters and table display stands in California look attracted attention. The campaign was accompanied on the restaurant's social media.
During the campaign period in May, more than 200,000 off- and online contacts were reached and over 5,000 tarte flambée with California walnuts sold. There were also over 1,000 interactions on social media. In response to the high demand, 70% of restaurants continued the campaign in June. In addition, California walnuts are now a fixed part of the restaurant chain's permanent menu.
